About

Bridge the gap between K-12 education and cutting-edge engineering, computing, and design to empower educators and students alike. The team will design and deliver dynamic workshops for K-12 schools, apply action research to enhance curricula, and build an online resource library with lessons and materials for teachers. These resources will help K-12 students deepen their understanding of engineering design. Culminating projects will involve developing an engaging lesson or project plan that integrates the engineering design process for K-12 students. By fostering creativity, problem-solving, and hands-on learning, this course aims to create materials to inspire the next generation of innovators in engineering design. While STEM and STEAM are popular topics in K12 education, there is a disconnect between curriculum development and cutting-edge engineering, computing, and design practices. K12 schools frequently contact the GT Center for Education Integrating Science, Math and Computing (CEISMC) looking for guests, mentors, and workshops, but the center cannot accommodate all requests. This VIP team will close the gap by developing and delivering effective programming at local schools, and by building a library of resources that can be used by teachers, families, and expert guests visiting classrooms. The team will conduct action research to support continual improvement. By creating this library of resources, teachers will have access to high materials to implement the Engineering Design Process in their K-12 classrooms. The team will apply effective pedagogical strategies for teaching STEM subjects, integrate engineering practices/concepts into classroom curricula, and conduct action research. Issues and practices involved in the work inlcude: curriculum development, project-based learning, developing interdisciplinary lesson plans, promoting innovation through engineering design challenges, utilizing technology to enhance learning experiences, and aligning STEM principles with national and state standards.
