About
The first goal of this project is to analyze and evaluate the current state of research administration and innovation management at Georgia Tech. The second goal is to create innovative solutions, tools, and organizational best practices to improve research administration and innovation management at Georgia Tech. The final goal is to disseminate the knowledge and tools created by this project to other US universities. American universities spend $90 billion in research per year to promote the progress of science, advance national health, prosperity, and welfare, and secure the national defense. Georgia Tech has a $1.3 billion annual research budget – the largest among universities without a medical school. High-quality management and administration of the university research enterprise are fundamental to continuously producing scientific breakthroughs and technological innovations. However, modern research administration is near a breaking point. From an operational perspective, research administration suffers from high employee turnover, process bottlenecks, low digitalization, and growing complexity. Strategically, there is an urgent need for breakthrough innovation management practices to accelerate the research productivity of American universities. Students in this project will create and deploy tools to improve the productivity of innovation management and research administration at Georgia Tech. They will also take a deep dive into the theory and practice of research and innovation management to create strategies that will ensure Georgia Tech’s position as a leading global research enterprise.
